The Adventures of Lizzy Jane

Chapter 1

Elizabeth Jane (Lizzy to her friends) was not your ordinary eleven-year-old. She was a quiet child with auburn hair and bright green eyes. She lived in a hidden magical village on Doubleton Mtn., Maine (USA) with her mother, Suzzan. They lived in a small country cottage next to the local hiking trail, where Lizzy liked to roam. Her daily routine ran between the large garden and helping out at her mom's apothecary shop in town. As an only child, Lizzy liked the deep connection she and her mom shared.

From a young age, Lizzy had a love of nature; each plant seemed to respond to her unspoken word, and animals came whenever she was near. She was a whisperer. Yet this gift came with its own set of challenges. One day, Lizzy was walking in the forest looking for mushrooms. A bee stung her, and in an instant, Lizzy got upset and swatted the bee away. Ten seconds later, a swarm of bees started to attack her. She ran inside, and her mother told her to calm down, and the bees would leave. Lizzy realized how dangerous her untamed magic could be. She knew she needed guidance.

Lizzy often thought about her father. He had mysteriously disappeared one day while in the mountains when she was just two. Her mother, a skilled herbalist who worked tirelessly at their small village's apothecary, often answered Lizzy's questions about her father. She told her stories of their time at Hogwarts and how he wanted to roam the Earth, and bring back new plants and materials to help create potions to cure everything. Lizzy decided she would follow in her parents' footsteps and become an apothecary and create those potions.

Later that summer, Lizzy was in the garden when a tawny screech owl flew overhead and dropped a letter at her feet. She ran to her mother's shop at the back of the garden and showed her the letter. Together they read it and shouts of joy rang out. She had been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! They read the letter and realized they needed to make a trip to Diagon Alley to get her things. The next day, Lizzy's new adventure would begin.
