Introduction to Discord
Chapter 1
If you already know about Discord, or even have an account for other communities, then you might not be invested in this chapter. But the rules of Discord are important to your stay at the Discordian Castle, so don’t skip over the entire chapter.
History of Discord
Discord was released in May of 2015 as a social platform, founded by Jason Citron (founder of OpenFeint) and Stanislav Vishnevskiy (founder of Guildwork). It was created to solve VoIP (voice over IP) communications in major multiplayer video games. Which is just a fancy tech name for talking over the internet.
Discord is an app for communicating by voice chats, text chats, threads (temporary text channels that can be set to automatically disappear, launched in August 2021), instant messaging, and media sharing.
Fun fact about the name: The name Discord was chosen by Citron because it "sounds cool and has to do with talking,” was easy to say, spell, remember, and was available for trademarks and websites. In addition, "Discord in the gaming community" was the problem they wished to solve.
Rules of Discord
Here is the link to the rules and guidelines of the Discord app itself. Not only do you have to agree to the terms when signing up for Discord, but also to join the Discordian Castle. https://discord.com/guidelines
