A letter to Hogwarts.

Chapter 1

It was a nice quiet day, Serene was in the backyard, playing and singing to the birds, until she saw an owl.

'An owl? Why, It's 10 a.m. I must tell mum.' she thought, getting up so quickly, she startled the two birds still eating the grains. She could have sworn the female, whom she had so lovingly named Iya, had given her a reproachful look, and she confirmed it when Iya haughtily turned her back on her and flew.

She ran to her mother, who was mending Serene's only pair of socks for what Serene thought the billionth time.

"Mum, mum, I saw the most unbelievable thing! An owl, mama, an owl!" Serene cried.

The little color her mother had in her face left. Her hands dropped the needle and sock, and they patted softly to the ground as her mother stood up.

"An owl? Darling, it's 10 a.m. There cannot be an owl. Stop having apparations and go and buy veggies, or go join that group which gives a dollar for soaking paper in water."

"Mum! It's called Paper Mache, and I really saw an owl. Look, there it is now!" Serene argued, pointing to the window.

The owl dropped the letter on the vacant chair, and stooped down to pick up a peice of egg omlet, which was the leftover of what they had for breakfast.

Serene bent to pick up the letter, but her mother was faster. She picked up the letter and saw the seal. Then immediatly threw it into the fire.

"Mum!" Serene screamed, her blue eyes eying her mother with distate,"We didn't even read it!"

Her mother hugged her, and Serene felt the frail frame of her mother shudder as she said, "I read it. It is spam."
