Chapter 5

Welcome back to Horoscopes, readers! I hope you’ve been enjoying this new issue so far. As you may know, we usually discuss upcoming horoscopes for the next month, but with our unfortunate delay in publishing, I’ve decided to do something a little different.

I’m sure some of you have heard of others avoiding certain people or disliking them based on their sign (or are the same yourself), but why exactly is that? Well, while keeping in mind that astrology is more of a belief subject, all zodiac signs have different personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and different compatibility with other signs. Today, we’ll be going in-depth into the personalities of each sign!

Aries (Ram): March 21 - April 20
Starting with Aries, this dynamic fire sign is bold and ambitious. Aries is a passionate, motivated, and confident leader, powered by their relentless determination. They are most known for their confidence and their vibrant, energetic nature, which many people find inspiring.

Despite this, Aries also has weaknesses. Because of their passionate nature, they often speak or act without thinking, finding themselves driven by immediate emotions. Their intense energy often leads to intense outbursts. In other words, Aries has a quick temper.

Aries are drawn to fellow fire signs, Sagittarius and Leo, as they each appreciate that bold and spontaneous energy. The air signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, also complement Aries well. In most cases, the grounded earth signs are unsettled by Aries’ spontaneity, while the emotional water signs may find themselves hurt by Aries’ bluntness and lack of sensitivity.

Taurus (Bull): April 21 - May 20
Taurus is a grounded earth sign known for its calm, steady nature. They are dependable, patient, and many of them are deeply connected to the physical world. Ruled by Venus, Taurus enjoys comfort and beauty. Venus is the planet of love and luxury, so it’s no surprise that Taurus is similar!

Taurus' biggest strength is their reliability. They’re loyal friends and partners who can always be counted on, and their determination helps them stick to goals no matter how long it takes. They’re also incredibly hardworking, especially when their efforts bring rewards.

Unfortunately, this sign is also very stubborn. Once a Taurus has made up their mind, good luck changing it! Their love of comfort can also make them resistant to change or unwilling to step out of their routines. And while they’re usually calm, when pushed too far, they can be surprisingly intense.

Taurus gets along best with other earth signs, Virgo and Capricorn, since they each value stability. Water signs like Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces also pair well with Taurus. Unfortunately, the fire signs (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius) may clash with Taurus’ steady nature, while air signs (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) might find Taurus too predictable.

Gemini (Twins): May 21 - June 20
Gemini, the ever-curious air sign, is a quick-witted and social butterfly! Gemini is known for having many sides to their personality, which is very dynamic. They thrive on communication and can often make conversation with ease. Gemini is energetic, clever, and always full of ideas, making them one of the most thought-provoking zodiacs.

However, Gemini also has its fair share of weaknesses. Their constant need for excitement can leave them scattered or inconsistent. They may be seen as unreliable or indecisive, and their love of talking can sometimes lead them to speak before thinking things through.

Gemini is most compatible with the other air signs, Libra and Aquarius, who match their curiosity and love for conversation. The fire signs also pair well with Gemini’s big energy and sense of adventure. On the other hand, earth signs may struggle with Gemini’s unpredictability, since they prefer more structure. Water signs could also find Gemini emotionally distant or difficult to connect with.

Cancer (Crab): June 21 - July 22
Cancer is an emotional, intuitive water sign ruled by the moon. They are described as nurturing and protective, since Cancer is very in tune with their feelings and the feelings of those around them. They are empathetic, loyal, and known for creating safe spaces through their actions.

The downsides of this mean that their sensitivity makes them prone to taking things personally, even when no harm is intended. They are scared of getting hurt, so they may sometimes be distant. Cancers take everything to heart, and emotional wounds take much longer for them to process.

Cancer connects best with the water signs, Scorpio and Pisces, because they understand each other's emotional depth. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) can also provide the comforting reassurance that Cancer needs. Fire signs can feel too bold and brash, coming off as overwhelming to Cancer, and the energy from air signs may be seen as unsettling.

Leo (Lion): July 23 - August 22
Now, for Leo, this fire sign is ruled by the sun. Leos are bold, passionate, and confident. As a natural-born leader, Leo has a magnetic personality, amazing creativity and self-expression, and is very loyal in their relationships.

Sadly, Leo’s desire to be admired can turn into attention-seeking behaviour, and their pride can make them overly sensitive to criticism. When they feel unappreciated, Leo can tend to be a bit dramatic. So, while they have big hearts, they also have big egos.

Leos are drawn to the other fire signs, Aries and Sagittarius. The social energy of air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, also pairs well with Leo. However, the earth signs may be overwhelmed by Leo, while water signs can feel overlooked by Leo as well.

Virgo (Virgo): August 23 - September 22
Next is an earth sign—Virgo! Virgos are logical, detail-oriented, and are known to have very analytical minds. They thrive in routines and value efficiency. Virgo approaches everything—whether it's solving a problem or perfecting a skill—with intense care and precision.

Virgo’s strengths can also become their downfall. Their perfectionist personality often leads to overthinking. They’re quick to notice flaws (especially their own) and can become stuck worrying too much to cut themselves some slack.

Like others, Virgo works better with other earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, who have similar traits. The water signs also bring an emotional understanding which, surprisingly, complements Virgo’s logical mindset. The precision Virgo brings usually won’t work around fire signs, and air signs might find Virgo’s need for perfection to be too much.

Libra (Balance): September 23 - October 22
Next up is Libra! Libras are social people who usually won’t struggle with making connections. They are aesthetes, with deep appreciations for art, elegance, and everything stylish. They live for design and refinement and have a natural charisma that attracts love and positive energy from the people around them.

But, of course, there’s a catch. Libras have a desire to please everyone, and this can often lead to people-pleasing. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, trying to keep peace even if it isn’t how they truly feel. This can make Libras seem insincere, when they only really need more self-trust and to stop seeking validation from others!

Libra loves their fellow air signs, Gemini and Aquarius, who share their lifestyle. Fire signs also blend well with Libra's charm! However, the earth signs might find Libra’s indecisiveness a bit much, and the water signs may want more emotion and connection than what Libra can provide.

Scorpio (Scorpion): October 23 - November 22
Scorpio is an intense water sign known for their passion, loyalty, and emotional depth. Driven by their instincts, Scorpios are determined and focused people. They draw others in with their presence and, like Leos, are natural-born leaders.

Scorpios’ desire for control can sometimes lead to jealous behaviours. They can be quite secretive, making it hard for people to truly understand them, and their intensity can sometimes be too much for others to handle.

Scorpios are most compatible with the other water signs, but they also go well with earth signs, since they provide the stability that Scorpio needs. Both fire signs and air signs might struggle to bond with Scorpios because of their controlling personality and desire for privacy.

Sagittarius (Archer): November 23 - December 21
The final fire sign, Sagittarius, is known for its unique blend of passion, curiosity, and adaptability. Sagittarius is always seeking new experiences, knowledge, and adventure. They love having the ability to explore and the freedom to travel—whether it be to faraway places of intellectual pursuits.

Sagittarius can be blunt sometimes and come across as harsh, which leads to misunderstandings. Their insatiable wanderlust also makes it difficult for them to commit, and they usually bounce around with their interests.

Sagittarius is most compatible with Aries and Leo, as they match each other's energy. They also connect well with air signs because they can keep up with their intellectual curiosity. Earth signs might find it hard to keep up with Sagittarius’ unpredictable nature, and water signs may be hurt by their bluntness.

Capricorn (Goat): December 22 - January 19
We’ve reached the last earth sign! Capricorn’s unique spirit has unmatched resilience and determination. They have a rare ability to stay grounded while also striving for greatness, as they wish to leave a great legacy behind them. Capricorns are incredibly loyal friends and partners who work tirelessly to support their loved ones.

Their intense focus on their goals can sometimes make them come off as distant or cold. They can also unintentionally place their high standards on others, forgetting that not everyone shares the same drive towards their future.

Understanding of their work ethic and ambition, Capricorns are very compatible with other earth signs. The empathetic water signs also complement Capricorn's nature. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the fire and air signs, who can’t relate to Capricorn as much.

Aquarius (Water Bearer): January 20 - February 19
Aquarius is a forward-thinking, innovative air sign! They are often ahead of their time with their intelligence, and like to challenge and change tradition. Aquarius values independence and is typically seen as unique and eccentric!

Despite their progressiveness, Aquarius can sometimes appear detached. Their focus on bringing forth large-scale change can cause them to overlook personal relationships and prioritise other things. This makes them seem cold, as they are more comfortable engaging with ideas rather than feelings.

Aquarius is most compatible with air signs, Gemini and Libra. The energy of the fire signs also resonates well with Aqaurius, as those signs appreciate bold ideas and independence. On the other hand, the air and water signs might struggle with Aquarius’ tendency to keep emotions as less of a priority.

Pisces (Fish): February 20 - March 20
At last, we’ve reached Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. Pisces is a very empathetic, intuitive, and spiritually inclined water sign. They have a deep connection with their emotions and the natural ability to understand things on a different level. This makes them very compassionate and selfless individuals.

Pisces can easily become overwhelmed by emotions, and it isn’t always their own. They find it easier to escape into fantasies rather than confront difficult situations. Sometimes, this comes off as unrealistic and irresponsible, as Pisces has difficulty facing problems head-on.

Pisces is most compatible with the water signs Cancer and Scorpio, who share the spiritual side that they do. Earth signs also make good matches, as they bring a calm and stable presence. The bold and energetic fire signs may find Pisces hard to understand, and the more intellectual air signs may have trouble connecting with Pisces' emotional side.
