Failed Research

Chapter 1

     The door cracked opened, voices whispered to each other. "That thing is not our child, how many more times do I have to tell you that Daniel." "That is our child Melissa. The boy is only four, his personality is still coming out." Melissa gestured into the room, "Fine, go check on him. I need a shower." She headed upstairs while Daniel checked on their son who was sleeping peacefully. Daniel closed the door and went into the kitchen to get a glass of water. He sat down on the couch to finish up the show he was watching not noticing the back door opened ajar. Meanwhile upstairs Melissa had finished up in the shower and got into pajamas when she heard a crash sound downstairs. She headed down the stairs, "Daniel?" Upon entering the livingroom she noticed he was asleep on the couch and a glass of red juice on its side on the coffee table. She let out a frustrated sigh, "Why did I marry a man when I could have been living in the tropics sunbathing on the beach. Daniel you better clean this up." She turned to leave but Daniel grunted a couple words, "Melly... run.." She went to turn on the light and turned to Daniel. His face and hands rotted Melissa screamed and rushed to the phone upstairs. Nearly to the top a hand wrapped around her ankle and pulled her down the stairs. With nothing to grip onto she tried kicking and fighting back. Something poked her arm and Melissa fell asleep.

     Dr.Bronze flipped through the papers on the clipboard. "Melissa Tray, age 23. Was brought in from falling down stairs. Her husband was found deceased on the couch from injesting acid. And their youngest child was found not breathing in his bed, appeared to have been deceased for quite some time." Nurse Oak turned to him, "Melissa actually died shortly after arriving. It's not safe out there, this is the fifth family in the last six months to have died." Dr.Bronze held up his hand, "We want the others to think that it's not safe out there but if even those in here are not safe either then our research has failed. Oakley I need you to return the company items and go home. Find another job. I have to close the company." Oakley did as she was told. Within a month the building was stripped and left bare. The building was barely vacant for two months when it already had new tenants. Two years later a resort had opened.
