Chapter 2

And then it was black.

Soon, the grey, cloudy fogginess cleared away, revealing a vast meadow. Bright green grass swayed gently in the breeze, coated with tiny daisies dotted around like scattered confetti. The vibrant blue sky stretched endlessly, interrupted only by a bright, dandelion- yellow sun that blazed down; its heat making the air feel thick and heavy. The warmth seemed to pulse from the ground, radiating up through Olivia’s skin, making everything feel ten times hotter than it should be. With no one around, Olivia was puzzled, her mind circling through countless questions. Where was she? Why wasn’t there anyone around? How does she get back?

Slowly standing, she brushed off the grass and dirt that was on her blue denim skirt and wandered around. It all seemed like an endless plain until she stumbled across a furry, snowy creature. With 4 paws and 2 adorable eyes, Olivia realised it was a dog. With no collar, lead or any sign of an owner, she took him with her, naming him Buddy. Buddy was a very curious dog. He always wandered off, following every interesting smell, dancing in the grass, leaving no stone unturned.

Olivia suddenly remembered about her quest to finish. She had to get home. Imagining dinner on the dining table, she gathered enough energy to keep going. Despite thinking about giving up, Olivia soon realised that it was no use since the grass hadn’t yet come to a halt. She needed a new plan.

It must have been a few hours because the sun was slowly setting. There were no trees around so Olivia had to sleep on the floor using her jacket as a pillow. Buddy snuggled up right next to her, keeping each other warm.

Olivia woke to the sound of a mighty roar - it was a t-rex. With her jaw hanging down, she stared at all the ruined nature. Footprints as big as cars, petals flying down from the air. It looked like a wedding!

Trying to remember advice from her Junior Zoology Camp when they taught her not to get eaten, she was unable to find anything that would help with a t-rex. The best thing she could think of was to stay still… or was that for snakes?

Just then, the mammoth, lime-coloured dinosaur fixed its eyes on them, as if it was deciding who to eat first. Olivia was trembling in fear, Buddy right next to her doing the same.

Then it all went light. Her room appeared just as she left off.

It was all a dream.
