Defence Against the dark arts - week one, class one

Chapter 2

Our class teacher proffesor Kwan gave us an introduction to defence against the dark arts, here are my class notes:

During 1995 - 1998 Voldemort worked to attain imortality using the dark arts and his newly found human form - a form he lost during a battle with the potters in 1981, this was where Harry Potter gained his lightning scar! In 1997 Voldemorts followers, the death eaters had succesed in taking over the ministry of magic and were passing laws that allowed the unforgivable curses (which we learnt later in the lesson). Thanks to Harry Potter and all his friends Voldemorts reign was over and Kingsley Shacklebolt took over as Minister of Magic.

We then learnt the 3 categories of spells:

Jinxes - Jinxes are the lowest type of spell, usually causing little harm and used in jokes (that wasn't encouraged) we were also informed that we will be experiencing some of Jinxes during our time in Defence against the dark arts.

Hexes - Hexes cause more lasting damage than a jinx often causing moderate harm they are more classified as a major inconvience. We learnt that any Hex can be reversed through a hex breaker. Some examples of Hexes include , bat-bogey hex, the hurling hex and densaugeo.

Unforgivable Curses - Professor Kwan informed us we won't be learning of these yet and that they can cause fatal injuries or even death on the target. She then expressed that any use of these curses will end up in a lifetime of Azkaban.

We then learnt the two spells, Lumos and Nox to perform these you must:

Lumos - Pronounced LOO-mos and swish your wand in a clockwise loop. Lumos makes a small light at the tip of your wand.

Nox - Pronounced NOX and you can just flick your wand to extinguish the light at the tip of you wand.

Professor Kwan then concluded our lesson.

I then began a introduction to Defence against the dark arts quiz and submitted that.
