National Cookie Day

Chapter 11

I dare you to close this magazine up right now.

Go ahead, ignore the title of this chapter, ignore your grumbling stomach, and close up this magazine.

If you managed to do that, you're a supernatural being (in a good way, don't worry). Why? Look at the title of this chapter ladies and gentlemen, and answer you'll find the answer to your question.

It's because this chapter is all about everyone's favourite snack: cookies! Fighting the urge to read about them (and eat them, as I am doing right now) makes you a powerful person. But, let me stop my babbling for a moment, don't you think? After all, this chapter is about cookies, not it's not called "Hazel And The 101 Ways To Kill Her Because She Never Stops Yapping."

Let's get on with it!

History Of National Cookie Day:

Cookies, these sugary round snacks that come in a large range from nuts to fruit to chocolate, are estimated to have been made back in the 7th Century AD. Persians were some of the first people to grow and harvest sugar cane, which would have eventually been turned into delicious baked goods. And, we should be grateful to them! If they hadn't done that, cookies probably would've taken a long time to come around. Maybe they would be different, or maybe they wouldn't exist at all! And I certainly wouldn't be here, writing this chapter.

After many years, sugar was brought into Europe as well... and that means cookies!

Europeans then migrated to America, taking their sugar and cookie recipes along with them. Americans were then introduced to round pieces of happiness and joy (cookies, obviously) and started making their own types. One of the most common (and best!) is the chocolate chip cookie-and that's the exact type I'm feasting on right now!

In 1987, Matt Nader started National Cookie Day (another legend!) Now it occurs every year on the 4th of December. Everyone can eat cookies, share cookies, and blabber about cookies on this day... and you won't even get scolded by your parents for having too much sugar! Well, you might, but it depends on who your parents are.

You might get a sugar rush, though. But honestly, who cares? You can focus on a diet or not going crazy another day-December 4 is all about cookies, and the happiness they bring to your watering mouths! (That happiness also tends to motivate you to write a certain chapter about cookies sometimes.)

Anyway, that's the end of this chapter. Just remember, cookies bring you happiness, and anything that brings you happiness in this world, keep it with you at all times! So, what are you waiting for? Grab a bag of cookies and start munching, even though the special day has already passed. I know for a fact that I have to leave now-I just finished my last cookie, and need to head to the kitchen for some more. Hopefully, the cookie monster doesn't get there before I do!
