Mawlid

Chapter 12

Welcome back, dearest readers! It’s yours truly, Ivy, and I am here to tell you about a cultural festival/holiday you may have never heard of: Mawlid!

What is Mawlid?
Mawlid is an annual festival commemorating the birth of the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad. This holiday is mainly celebrated in the Islamic religion, and it falls on the 12th day of the month RabÄ«, which for the UK/US, translates to the 14th and 15th of September. The festival of Mawlid quickly transpired throughout the Muslim culture as a personal experience for themselves. Christians and the Jewish celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah to recognise the birth of a religious figure, and that’s precisely what Mawlid is like for the Islamic religion!

How is Mawlid Celebrated?
Mawlid is celebrated in many ways! The general consensus on how Mawlid is celebrated could be considered but it is not limited to:
- Festivals
- Prayer Services
- Recitations of Poetry & Litanies
- Religious Gatherings
- Feasts
- Street Parades
- Chants
- Decorating streets, homes, and mosques

I really hope you enjoyed reading about this holiday. Maybe you've even learned something new? Make sure to tune in next month for more special celebrations and news. For now, goodbye!
