Ron Weasley

Chapter 11

It was the second week since Beauxbatons and Dumstrang had arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. McGonagall had told them all about the Triwizard Tournament and had welcomed them all with a huge smile on her face. Ron was excited by the announcement, after all not every Hogwarts student could be present to see two Triwizard Tournaments. He saw his chance to participate and be remembered just as much, or even more, than his other siblings. He wanted others to see him as they had seen his brother Charlei, to remember him like Percy, to admire him as much as his twin brothers Fred and George, to be as popular as his little sister Ginny. Ron wanted to stand out from his family. The night before he had taken a piece of yellowed and somewhat old parchment and picked up his quill with ink. He wrote his name in his best handwriting in the middle of the night so that the next day he could go to the Goblet and put his name in it. Ronald Bilius Weasley. Then he went to bed.

"Ron, come on Ron, get up or you'll miss breakfast." Harry shouted at him almost shouting as he shook him savagely.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." He stood up with difficulty and prepared to go down to the Great Hall. Before going to enjoy the morning delicacies he made sure he had the little piece of paper with his name on it. They went down quickly and saw that Hermione and Ginny were already at the Griffindor table.

"Morning girls." Ron said with a smile. "I hope you didn't miss us too much during our absence." Ginny laughed first, infecting Hermione.

The four of them sat down to eat and chat for a while. Ron got up from the table after a while and headed out of the Great Hall without saying where he was going. He walked quickly to the ground floor of the castle and opened the large wooden doors. He saw the large Goblet of Fire in front of him in an empty, dark room. The Goblet looked the same as the last time he had seen it. Old but majestic and firm, as if it had many stories to tell inside it and thousands of secrets that no one knew. He placed his name and saw the navy-colored flames make the paper disappear so that the ashes would also disappear.

Ron was about to leave the place when someone opened the door. It was a Hufflpuff boy who was followed by a tall, thin boy with black clothes and contrasting hair. It was Draco Malfoy. Draco did not see Ron since he had hidden behind one of the pillars that were in the room. He saw how both boys put their names inside the Goblet and how the flames consumed both papers. Minutes later Hermione appeared behind those heavy and ancient doors. Draco saw her and approached her. Ron felt his blood boil at that moment. Jealousy wanted to explode inside Ron. He tried to stay calm but when Malfoy hugged Hermione, he simply exploded. Crazy ideas were running through his mind. Why would Hermione be friends with that ferret? Did Malfoy like Mione? Wait what if... no it couldn't be true, what if Hermione liked Malfoy?! That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Once they both left, he headed furiously to his bedroom. He searched through Harry's things and found what he was looking for, his best friend's invisibility cloak. He took it without permission and put it on. He went straight to Professor Slughorn's classroom skipping his Transfiguration class. In the professor's cupboard he found the elixir he was looking for. Veritaserum or truth potion. His idea was to put some in Hermione's drink and ask her random things and then get to the question that really interested him: did she like Draco Malfoy? In his mind this plan was going to work perfectly and nothing bad was going to happen. He was blinded by his hatred towards the Malfoys and his jealousy towards Hermione. He just had to wait until lunchtime. There were only a few hours left and his sinister smile grew with each second that went by. If Hermione liked Malfoy he could not just let them be together, he had to do something and intervene.
