Chapter 9
~ It was about 5:00 in the afternoon. Sarah and I were minding our own business. She was on her phone and I was working on my stories. There was a loud thump above us. Toby jerked awake from his sleep and growled. “Toby. What is it?” The thumbing was above our head. Getting louder by the second. “Sarah. Is there anyplace else that someone could get in?” “No… Wait maybe through the attic?” Darn. I knew none of the officers were looking at the roof. They were looking at the ground. It was a set up. “Sarah. I want you to go down and stay with the officers. Take Toby. They will protect you. Tell them I am going to investigate and send some officers up.” Sarah soon hurried off and I headed towards the attic. I pulled the string and the latter fell down. The footsteps stopped. He knows someone is here. On the floor next to the latter was a lamp. Well it was the best thing I could do. I grabbed the lamp and held it like my life depended on it. Because it did. Climbing the stairs, I saw a figure swiftly moving around the room. When I reached the top I said, “Who are you? And what do you want?” “Intriguing Questions.” said a low but scratchy voice. The sound of his eerie voice sounded like chalk on a chalkboard. I saw the figure circle me like sharks and their prey but then it disappeared. Just then a hand from behind clamped over my mouth as I tried to scream for help. I took the lamp and swung it over my head, hitting the figure. The figure yelped in pain. Then when he came after me again, I stomped on his foot and it screamed in agony. Thankfully, some cops came up but the mysterious figure swiftly climbed up and out the window. “Come on guys. Let's go get him.” I said as I climbed out the window after him. In the daylight, I could see that the figure was definitely a man about six feet tall and wearing all black. He was running on top of the houses leaping from roof to roof. I charged at him not thinking of how high we were up. Chasing him, I was closing in on him. He was definitely older than me but I was younger and faster. I got close to him and almost reached out and grabbed the hoodie when he jumped down off the roof onto the top of a moving truck. He wanted a high speed car chase. He was toying with us. I turned and told the police officers, “Get the cars ready and chase after that truck. I will find another way.”
