Chapter 2
~ When Toby and I finished lunch we headed back on the road towards the hotel. As we were driving I saw a sign. “Look Toby, National Turtle sighting 50 feet. Let's go there. We’ll take a stretch break.” Woof! As I came over the hill to the supposed National Turtle sighting place, I saw police cars everywhere. “What's going on,” I muttered. Screeching the car to a hult, I jumped out of the car and jogged over to the scene. When I arrived, there were three gentlemen looking over the cliff and muttering quietly. “Gentlemen, what is going on here?” They rushed towards me and tried to shield me from the scene. “Miss you should not be here. Go back home and take the dog.” they said. “I have every right to be here and Toby does to. .” To prove it I pulled out my California Private Detective agency badge. All three men looked dumbfounded. Toby barked at them almost like he too was proving his point. “Can someone please tell me what's going on here. I have to be at a hotel soon, so make it snappy.” “W...W...Well. There sort of has been an accident. The man….cliff...jumped…” the smallest man mumbled. As he mumbled on I stared at his characteristics. He seemed timid. He was short, blonde, and seemed like a person who would play chess in his spare time. Turning my attention, I looked to the other man who seemed a bit older but more experienced. “What exactly happened, officer. I want details.” I said as I took out my pad of paper. “Well, lady. We got a mysterious call about a man jumping over a cliff. We asked who the man was and where did he jump. All we got back was “Sciron…Turtles…” Pretty weird. When he said turtles we rushed here to find a body at the bottom of a cliff.” “Suspicious. Was there any motive? Suicide? Accident? Have you identified the man yet? His name can’t be Sciron.” “Well lady, the coast guard is trying to get him so we can do an autopsy.” “Ok good. I'm going to have a look around here and look for any lead as to what happened. Toby. Go start sniffing.” As if saying right on cue Toby said, Woof. When Toby trotted off to sniff, I made my way towards the edge of the cliff. Once there, I saw a wash bin and soap. What is this doing here? There was some symbolism here. I knew it, but I just couldn't put a finger on it. Why here? With the turtles? Just then a bark emerged from the background. Bark. “Toby? Where are you?” Toby rushed to me and gave me a smile.“What have you found now Toby?” Toby then wagged his tail and ran off as if telling me to follow him. When I finally caught up to Toby, I realized that we were on the other side of the highway. Toby barked. And motioned to something that was shrouded by the leaves of the forest. When I pulled the cover off, we found an old car. Not just any old car but a beetle just like mine but blue. “Great job, Toby. What a good boy. Now let's check what's inside. When I opened the door and looked in, I saw that the car was in perfect condition. Weird. I opened the glove compartment and saw a bag. “Jackpot!” I said. I then opened the bag to find a license, some food, and surprisingly some jewels. Huh. “Hey Cops. You may want to have a look at this.”
