Chapter 13
~ I woke up tied to a wheel. A big wheel. I was tied horizontally, almost like those circus acts when a person throws knives at you. “Well, well, well. Miss Bennett we meet again.” A figure said. The figure stepped out of the darkness and light showered his face. His face was wrinkled and old. “You! You're the… the... museum custodian!” I said dumbfounded. “Charles Tores at your service. Yes. As soon as I saw you, I knew you were on to me.” “Where’s Toby?”I said angrily, “Toby?” Charles said with a twisted smile. “Do you mean Cerberus?” He gestured to a dark corner that soon lit up. Toby was tied up and a mechanical saw was dangling above him. Just above his throat. “No. Why do you do this? Is it to make justice? This is not justice, this is execution.” “You’re wrong. People have gotten away with things that are evil. You know that Paul Hill. You know he got away with stealing the jewels. Come on work with me. I know you want justice in the world.” “Mr. Charles Tores, you're crazy. I will never work for you. Right now the cops should be here any minute.” Just then, police sirens could be heard from outside of the warehouse. “Crud,” Charles said. He then reached for a lever that pulled down a microphone. “Attention cops. At this time you have trapped yourself. You and your precious cars are about to explode. In one of your cars is a bomb. Find it and you win, don't, Miss Elizabeth Bennett and her dog are going to get it.” “Oh and before I go, your new name is Ixion.” he said mysteriously as he struck a match. He then set the match on the side of the circle I was tied to. It immediately caught on fire. Charles soon walked away and was distracted by the police officers. He went up to the roof to watch them. Ixion. Ixion. Ixion was a man who was strapped to an eternal wheel of burning fire. “I am not going to stay here for eternity.” I said. Closing my fist, I leaned towards the fire hopefully burning off the rope on my hands. The fire singed my skin, making me bite my lip to help stop me from screaming. The ropes finally burned off and I quickly hopped down from the perch. “I saved myself from my fiery death,” I said sarcastically. Toby, I thought. I rushed over to Toby and quickly untied him. “Good boy.” I whispered. As we were about to walk out, I saw something shiny. When I turned around, there was a bomb to my left. The time read 10 minutes left. It was a trick, there is no bomb in the car. Charles climbed out of the roof to escape the bomb in the warehouse while the cops were trying to find the bomb in the car! I ran up the stairs and pushed Charles down to the ground. He was about to jump into the water. I sat on him and put his hand behind his back. “You're under arrest,” I said while handcuffing him. Pulling Charles as hard as I could, I walked to the exit of the warehouse. “Guys!” I yelled as I burst the door open. “Get out of here, it was a trick. Run!” Everyone burst into a sprint and ran as far away. I ran ahead pulling Charles handcuffed behind me. When everyone reached a safe spot, we heaved a great sigh. In the distance, we could hear a giant boom. “So much for the Mythical Beast,” I said sarcastically. “In jail you can never get your kind of justice again.
