Chapter 1
Bark! Bark! “Toby. Stop barking. We're almost there.” Both Toby and I were driving down exit 29 on our way to see the US Open. Something I have always wanted to see since I was little. “Woof!” “Alright. Fine I’ll stop for food. How about some coffee?” I pulled into the parking lot of Louise Cafe. It was a small cafe. Tiny but cute. A sign said “Best Cafe in New York City!” which I knew was wrong. “Now Toby, stay in the car while I go get the food.” When I walked in I was greeted by an elderly woman. She had grey, almost silver hair with a caring complexion. She looked to be in her late sixties. She would be a perfect character for my new novel. “ My name is Louise. How may I help you?” “Hi. I am Elizabeth Bennett. Do you happen to serve sandwiches? My dog, Toby loves them.” “Yes, anything to drink? “Iced coffee please.” “So you're new here. Let me guess, for the US Open?” I was surprised.“Yes, how did you know?” “They shouldn’t be hosting that Open, too many things are going on around here.” Louise mumbled under her breath. “What things? What's wrong with being here?” “Miss, here is your coffee and sandwich. Now have a nice day.”Louise then shuffled away almost as if she didn't want to answer my question. “Wait Miss Louise. You didn’t answer my question!” I shook my head. Useless, it's a waste of time chasing after people. Strange though that the lady said that strange things have been happening. This is all too good to be true. This is exactly the setting of a crime novel.
