Summary of The Hunger Games

Chapter 1

Katniss is on the train to the Arena for the 74th Hunger Games. Haymitch comes in. Haymitch is giving 'useful' information on how to survive. They had reached the Arena and were getting ready to start. The countdown had started. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and the noise sounded. Katniss looked around, already people were dead. She ran straight to the building and picked up a bag, before running up into the trees. She ran and ran until finally she stopped and climbed up a tree, where she opened the bag she had picked up and started pulling the things inside out. A rope was first to come out. Useful in a way she thought. Next she pulled out a water bottle. Excitement flooded through Katniss. She quickly pulled lid of. There was nothing in there. She tipped it into her hand. Nothing came out. Useless. Days and nights had gone by since Katniss arrived at the arena. Half the tributes had died in the first day. Now there were only 5 tributes left. Katniss, Peeta, Thresh, Cato and Clove. Katniss went out to get medicine and Clove tried to kill her. Thresh saved Katniss by killing Clove. As he walked off he said 'Only this time 12, for Rue.' Rue had been Katniss's only friend during The Hunger Games, but she died. Katniss took the medicine and ran back to the spot where Peeta was waiting. Thresh died somehow. That left three victims. Peeta and Katniss were chased by dogs and jumped up onto the roof of the building. Cato was also there. He had Peeta in a headlock and when Katniss lifted her bow up Cato said 'Shoot, then we both die and you win' but Katniss didn't shoot. Cato ended up getting pushed off the roof and onto the ground where the dogs were.
