Top 5 Mystery Books (Entertainment)
Chapter 6
Hello and welcome to the first edition of Top 5 Books of ____ Genre! I thought I’d start with mystery, as it is one of my favourite genres. 5. Nancy Drew- Plot: Nancy Drew is a teen sleuth who solves mysteries. She goes on lots of adventures and thwarts lots of villains. Spoiler Free Review: Nancy Drew is one of the most iconic sleuths ever! She is super smart, and isn’t afraid of anything. I recommend reading the newer, more edited books, because they have more modern stories that readers of younger ages will enjoy. 4. Enola Holmes- Plot: When Enola Holmes, the much younger sister of detective Sherlock Holmes, discovers her mother has disappeared—on her 14th birthday, nonetheless—she knows that she alone can find her. Disguising herself as a grieving widow, Enola sets out to the heart of London to uncover her mother’s whereabouts—but not even the last name of Holmes can prepare her for what awaits. Suddenly involved in the kidnapping of the young Marquess of Basilwether, Enola must escape murderous villains, free the spoiled Marquess, and perhaps hardest of all, elude her shrewd older brother—all while collecting clues to her mother’s disappearance! Spoiler Free Review: I do have to admit, I have not read the first book, but I have seen the movie. I have read the second book and I found it very intriguing. I love that it’s set further back, and I love Enola so much! She’s such a smart and brave character! 3. Withering-by-Sea- Plot: High on a cliff above the gloomy coastal town of Withering-by-Sea stands the Hotel Majestic. Inside the walls of the damp, dull hotel, eleven-year-old orphan Stella Montgomery leads a miserable life with her three dreadful aunts. But one night, Stella sees something she shouldn't have... Something that will set in motion an adventure more terrifying and more wonderful than she could ever have hoped for… Spoiler Free Review: The plot description doesn’t give away much, but I can tell you that this book is worth reading! It’s full of mystery and left me longing for the next one. 2. A Series of Unfortunate Events- Plot: The series follows the unfortunate lives of the three extremely unlucky Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, who are trying to get by in their difficult lives and survive the pursuit of their nemesis Count Olaf and his various associates who attempt to steal their inherited fortune. Spoiler Free Review: This series is absolutely amazing! I do have to admit, I did watch the show first, but I went back and read the books. The books have mystery, suspense, and even humour at some points. 1. One of Us Is Lying- Plot: One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention, but only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide Spoiler Free Review: This is such a good book! Every chapter you change your mind on who you think did it. I love everything about this book! As for the end, all I can say is it was not who I suspected. Hope you enjoyed this article! -Jess Granger, Manager of HDN
