Chapter 3
Chapter Two Xena Is *Thankfully* Found The woman who found Xena outside the small home was Miss Rose, who was the paid help at this home. She certainly seemed a bit annoyed to be woken up at such a time, but as soon as she saw the shivering child at the top of the steps all hints in her expression that stated annoyance was immediately gone. Miss Rose immediately picked up the child. It was a gloomy, rainy night outside the little brick building and the baby was shivering. She stuck her head out into the neon-lit streets. No one was there. “You poor thing,!” she cried as she picked up the child. Miss Rose walked into the brick building. She and Xena were inside a cozy sitting room. Finally, Miss Rose stopped walking and carried the baby gently as she sat down on the sofa. She stared at the little girl. As soon as the baby got close to the warm fireplace her skin warmed to light cocoa brown. Xena’s eyes at one glance looked like a dark hazel, but upon further inspection, they were less like a brown, but more a fiery amber. Galaxies upon galaxies were in her eyes. “Who’s there?” a small voice said. Miss Rose realized she was staring at the baby and immediately looked up to see a short little boy leaning on the stairway to another floor of the building. “Oh it just me, dear child.” Miss Rose said to the boy. The boy seemed relieved and started to walk towards Miss Rose and the child on the table. “Who is that?”Asked the little boy. “Eddie,” Miss Rose began in a gentle voice.”This is Xena” She said as she read a small note she hadn’t noticed the baby had in her little hands before. “Why is she here?”Eddie asked as he looked at the little baby who looked as though she would shatter at first touch. “Well, I wasn’t planning on- Oh dear, Child please be careful!” Miss Rose said a bit more loudly. He pulled his head back a little from the baby but still stared at Miss Rose for the answer to his question. She sighed and motioned her head towards the staircase. “No time for questions now child, go get your mother.”Miss Rose said more firmly. Eddie sighed, for a few seconds his eyes wandered to the window, outside you could see all the tall buildings lit up in the night. For the most part, San Brixton was a pretty well known concrete city located in North America but it was also known as “Novis” which is Latin for strange, because it was known for its odd weather, preposterous reports to police and in some cases, people mysteriously going missing. For these reasons and more, those who knew this strange history of the city usually kept their distance from San Brixton. After a few more seconds of silence, Miss Rose finally spoke. “Eddie,” Miss Rose said, who was starting to look at him when he seemed to have just come back to earth. “Can you please go get your mother?”She said. “Why would you have to get me?”Said another voice from the stairs. Both Eddie and Miss Rose looked up. Standing before them was a tall slender woman who must have been Eddie’s mother, she had fluffy light brown hair, a fair olive complexion, and his same curious green eyes. The woman had long black leggings and a faded blue T-shirt that was a bit too big for her. “Miss Juniper!” “Yes, Miss Rose?”Juniper asked calmly. Then Juniper saw the baby on the couch. “Would you mind telling me who that is?” She said in a tone that was surprisingly calm. “Well,” Miss Rose said nervously “You may want to see her. ” Juniper didn't say anything in the first few seconds. She simply walked towards the child on the couch. Eddie’s mother silently walked to the small infant on the couch. (Which honestly isn’t the best place to keep a baby, but really who am I to say anything ?) It seemed that both Eddie and Miss Rose were holding their breath. As if at any moment the house would go into a frenzy of socks, cereal boxes, and lunch bags. Yes, Eddie is still here. I can’t believe you’ve forgotten him already! You're lucky I have to get back to the story. Eddie, lucky enough was not caught in the sock-cereal box-lunch bag frenzy, but, instead, he had been paying attention to someone standing just outside the stairs to the house.
