HOGWARTS AND THE BUTTON

Chapter 6

In the meantime, there was chaos at Hogwarts. Everyone was scouring the castle and the grounds to find Mia or anything related to her, as the news of her going missing had spread rapidly. McGonagall was in a fit as she thought Mia had run away. But she was doubtful as Mia was a Ravenclaw and such reckless decisions are not expected from them. She also knew that the death eaters were on the prowl. Mia's friends, Eddie, Marley, Alora and the rest of Ravenclaw house were very shocked and scared out of their wits. Not to mention how concerned they were for their missing friend. On the third day of their search, a Hufflepuff girl called Sophie Turner found a button near the main gates of Hogwarts. It was the place where Mia had been kidnapped. Sophie picked up the button and examined it carefully in the sunlight. It was silver with a queer carving on it. Sophie thought to take it to McGonagall as she remembered the search for Mia. She tore across the grounds and rushed to McGonagall's office. She knocked sharply on the large, mahogany door and went in as she heard the tired voice of the headmistress. McGonagall was sitting on her desk with long parchments of paper surrounding her. She had a quill in her hand and she was rubbing her forehead. "Professor," Sophie began but she was interrupted, "I hope it's not one of your mad schemes now Sophie. I have very important matters to take care of. In case you haven't noticed, a girl is missing from the school." McGonagall said, quite irritated by the latest happenings. "Well, I came here for that matter professor. I found something near the main gates which might tell us something about the missing girl you are talking about." Sophie said nervously as she was shaken by McGonagall's sudden outburst. At this piece of news, McGonagall sat bolt upright in her chair and said, "What did you find Sophie? Show it to me now. It might be able to help us solve this mystery. Quick, quick!" Sophie walked slowly up to McGonagall's large desk and placed the button before her, "It is a button professor, with a strange carving on it. I couldn't make out what it was." McGonagall observed the button with eager eyes. As she was examining it, something caught her curious eye and she gasped loudly. Sophie exclaimed worriedly, "What happened professor, are you alright?" McGonagall nodded as her face had gone pale and her hands were shaking. She pointed to a glass of water kept on a small table in the corner and Sophie brought it to her hurriedly. After a few minutes when McGonagall had calmed down, she spoke softly, "Call the professors. I need to show them something." Sophie dashed down the stairs to call the professors while McGonagall tried to keep calm.
