Iris Pius was a witch who attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the mid-19th century. She was known for being a strict woman with an even stricter moral compass, though her values and perception of what was morally acceptable radically differed from some of her contemporaries at the time. With respect to her outward appearance, she was most notably described as having eyes that were the most peculiar shade of blue. In certain lighting, they almost appear to be violet.
After graduating Hogwarts, Pius became the Muggle Studies professor there. She believed that all should be treated equally and became a major proponent of the Muggle Women’s Suffrage Movement of 1872 in the United Kingdom. This earned her respect by many Muggle women as well as witches, yet earned her scorn from some of her male colleagues. Pius did not stop fighting for equality and women’s suffrage. She also fought cautiously for gay rights and it is now believed that Iris may have had her own female partner, though no name has ever been attributed to this mystery woman. Her outspoken nature and radical thinking eventually drove her into hiding and it is unknown when she died. Her portrait hangs in Hogwarts to commemorate this forward-thinking alumnus.
