Damara Dodderidge was a tall woman with long auburn hair, and is depicted with a walking stick and dressed for a masque, a dramatic performance for royal entertainment. She lived during the sixteenth century and she was named after the goddess of fertility. Her portrait is a very needy woman, always asking the portrait of Giffard Abbott at the bottom of the stairs for food. She constantly goes on about eating. When she isn’t talking about food, all she wants to do is sleep. Not many know, but these strange occurrences are because she is pregnant. She never mentions it, and it is unknown if the portrait knows. Furthermore, her friendship with Abbott when they were alive was quite an interesting one and will be discussed more in depth in his entry.
From 1991 to 1998, Damara’s portraits were moved and placed in a few different locations around Hogwarts. Her portrait originally sat in the castle’s Grand Staircase, and in 1993, another one of her portraits was hung in Gryffindor Tower. In 1995, Damara guarded the shortcut that lead to the Clock Tower from the Grand Staircase, though the year after she was moved to a different spot in the staircase, continuing to guard the same passage with a new password. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Damara managed to escape her portrait to find safety.
