Dear Diary #1: Sorting Day
Chapter 1
Dear Diary,
Today was my first day at Hogwarts, and I have to admit, its strange here. I mean, growing up, I knew I wasn't like most kids, heck, my mother knew it. She took it upon herself to try and find answers, but we were always left with more questions. At the ripe old age of 16, we finally figured it out. It seemed like once we did, something changed. My mother suddenly talked about my father more and more, and yet, I still know nothing.
Anyway, today we were sorted into our houses, the ones we will be in till the end of time, or at least until school ends. Being around the buzzing first years was interesting. Don't get me wrong, they are all adorable, but being as I am 8 years older than them, its a little disheartening. Though I do miss being eleven and having the smallest problems. It is nice to be around such innocent children, eager to learn, and eager to know everything.
It was more than uncomfortable, sitting in front of the entire student body, waiting to hear my fate from the old Sorting Hat. Rather than the usual chorus of "Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin." that he is used to hearing, he was met with the overwhelmingly unanimous choir of "Anything but Gryffindor." from me. My nervous jitters got the best of me as I hoped to hear the loud words "Hufflepuff!". But t'was not my fate. To my woe, I heard the words, "Slytherin" bound from the Sorting Hat's dusty mouth.
I slinked down to the Slytherin table and sat towards the back, quietly awaiting the next chapter. Food was served promptly, and though it wasn't Hufflepuff, the Slytherin's seemed kind, sort of. It felt awkward, being the only 19 year old in a room full of people who shared magic. But, I figure it was hard enough to be enrolled into Hogwarts, so I should at least enjoy what I can.
Living in North America, but in a country still under the British commonwealth, there was confusion as to which Wizarding School I should attend. Ilvermorny was closer, but Hogwarts was part of our sister country. Finally it was agreed that Hogwarts would be the proper choice, and soon after, I received my letter, packed my bags, and headed off to London.
Well Diary, I should be getting to bed now. I have my own room, as many parents were concerned with there being an adult at the school, but I do have to be up early.
Until Next Time
