#1. Whoever Thought Making Mothers And Fathers Day Cards At School Was Good, The

Chapter 1
<a href="https://fontmeme.com/the-end-of-the-fing-world-font/"></a>
"Gather round gather round everyone..." Mrs. Cleye said waving her arms in the direction of the large art table in the middle of the classroom. The art room was in the basement of our school, so the teeny windows were up high and the sun shone through to dance upon the stone floor. Everyone crowded eagerly around the table. Mrs. Cleye threw back a tarp and there was everything you'd ever need to make a card. Paper, pom-poms, glitter glue, pencils, puffy paint, you name it.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Cleye, what's this all for?" a boy named Jake asked. Mrs. Cleye looked at him.
"Why Fathers Day of course!" she waved her arms and confetti flew from her sleeves. She laughed. "Now let's get started!" Really, we were in seventh grade, nearly eighth, and they were still making us do cards in school. Besides, Mother's Day and Father's Day have always been weird for me and my friend Marlee. A few months back, when we had to make mothers day cards, it was my turn to feel weird. As I have no mom. Well, I guess I did at some point. But I'm adopted and I have two dads. Now it was Marlee's turn to feel weird. Her dad died a few months after she was born. It's sad. About two months before Marlee was born, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. He barely got to be with his baby girl. He wasn't there when she was born. In a hospital room on the other side of the building where cancer patients were kept. He had to wait to be with her because Marlee was early. He had a little time... then suddenly died. Marlee has no memory. It's sad for her to talk about it, so I helped her out a bit.
"Mrs. Cleye?" I said quietly. "Can Marlee go down to the library?" She knew both of our situations. She nodded.
"Can you walk her down, Colette?" she asked getting down thick, colorful paper. I nodded and quickly brought Marlee to the library. She picked out a book and sat down in a squishy bean bag chair. I walked back to the art room and made two cards for both of my dads.
After we were done, I put the cards in my locker and went to get Marlee. She was sitting in the same spot, her face stuffed in her book. Not good. I walked over to her and sat next to her prying the book away from her. Her face was red and splotchy. I put my arm around her. "You don't need a dad..." Because I knew what this was about.
"It's just... just like a reminder he's gone." Marlee said mopping up her eyes.
"Then think he's here. Because he's always in your heart." I gave her a hug and stood up. I led her out of the library and to the cafeteria for lunch.
