In the depths of the British Ministry of Magic is the Department of Mysteries , where witches and wizards explore the world's greatest mysteries, related to time, death, space, and love. Although Harry Potter books and films have revealed information about the Ministry of Magic and especially the Department of Mysteries, these are 7 things you may not have known about this particular piece of witchcraft and magic. THE DEPARTMENT OF MYSTERIES PRE-EXISTED THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC When the Ministry of Magic was founded in 1707, it was based on the structure of the Department of Mysteries, which, according to its official archive, had been in operation since at least 1672.
