Chapter One: Summary of Known Magical Diseases

Chapter 3
A disease, ailment, illness, malady etc. is a disorder of a structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, magical or otherwise, especially if it produces specific signs and symptoms in a specific location and is not the direct result of physical injury. Diseases are often caused by a pathogenic agent; Be it a virus, bacteria, or otherwise. In some cases, however, this can occur without outside provocation (Cancer is an example of this; It requires no agent to manifest, instead being created from disturbances in the organism's cells.). These agents can be magical or not; A pathogenic agent is considered magical when it causes a magical disease and has been observed to respond properly to magical stimuli. A disease is considered magical when one or more of the following traits are observed: - Its symptoms can be classified as magical (Such as inhibiting a person to use magic, creating magical disturbances in one's body etc.) - The disease is transmitted through Magical means (Spells, potions, magical creatures and plants) - It can only be treated through Magical remedies This is a list of the current known magical maladies and their specific courses of treatment. BLACK CAT FLU The Black Cat Flu is a Magical variation of influenza caused by the "Sternutatio cattus" Magical virus. This virus is attracted to domestic cats that have predominantly black fur. The cause for this specific behaviour is still unknown. Symptoms in cats include sneezing, difficulty breathing and severe insomnia. The virus cannot survive for long on cats; It dies off in the wild if it cannot infect a human, normally by being expelled through the consistent sneezing of the infected cat. Symptoms include coughing, fever, sneezing, and in severe cases, joint pain, headaches and vomit. It can be easily treated by visiting your local magical doctor or, if in hand, half a bottle of Wiggenweld Potion. DRAGON POX Dragon Pox is an extremely contagious, extremely dangerous disease caused by the "Draco cutis infectiones" Magical virus. Contrary to popular belief, Dragon Pox is NOT caught from interactions with dragons. The disease gets its name because, when infected, the host's skin will erupt in small reddish bumps and assumes a greenish tint. The host will also exhibit sparks when they sneeze, resembling a dragon's fiery breath. As said before, it is not caused by dragons. Instead it is transmitted through contact with an infected person, which themselves are infected by another person and so on. Dragon Pox is so virulent that even long-dead corpses can transmit this illness! To cure Dragon Pox, the best and recommended solution is a bottle of Dragon Pox Cure, developed by Grunhilda of Gorsemoor. Simply allow the infected person to drink a full bottle and keep caring for them as best as you can; The infection should disappear after two to three days. DRAGON POX IS ABSURDLY CONTAGIOUS. You should NEVER approach an infected person without proper protection (Long robes, gloves, and preferably a mask) and MUST properly clean and disinfect any locations where they might have been to. Do NOT attempt to bring an infected person to a hospital; Isolate them IMMEDIATELY. If specialized medical care is necessary, go alone and explain the situation. Children that go to schools must be forbidden to attend. DRAGON POX IS LETHAL IF LEFT UNTREATED. Do not waste time in initiating care for the afflicted. Place them in a comfortable, isolated location and provide plenty of fresh water. Keep the patient calm at all times; Remind them that curing Dragon Pox is easy and that you are doing your best to care for them.
