Chapter 1

This might just be the Detective Society's most amazing case yet! It's no murder which I think Daisy's rather upset about but I think I've had enough murder for a lifetime if I'm honest. It's a very curious case and I do believe it's a magical one. Naturally, Daisy disagrees, she doesn't believe in magic but I don't see any other possible explanation. It feels awkward writing up a case again and honestly quite scary after what happened during the last one. It started at bunbreak on Wednesday. It was bourbons, the best bunbreak, Daisy's just looked over my shoulder and said that while bourbons aren't bad, the best ones are actually squashed flies, I beg to differ. We were queued up when suddenly everything seemed to melt away, it didn't make sense and still doesn't. Our Deepdean was replaced by a castle. "Daisy," I hissed. "Something truly magical has happened." "Don't be ridiculous, Hazel," she said. "You and I both know there's no such thing as magic. But this does seem interesting. Why, maybe we've been poisoned! We could be suffering strange side effects." "Are you suggesting matron poisoned us?" I asked scornfully. The Hazel of two years ago would never have dreamt of speaking to Daisy like that but the thing is, I am not the Hazel of two years ago, I've changed a lot and though she would never admit it, so has Daisy. "Ahem," a voice said. I jumped and span around, Daisy was unsurprised and spun elegantly to face the speaker. Before us stood a girl. "Yes?" Daisy snapped. "I don't recognise you, nor those uniforms," the girl said. "Actually, they look like muggle uniforms that went out of fashion years ago." Daisy was affronted. Despite everything, she still hates to hear Deepdean being criticized, "Says you! You look like someone from the middle ages!" But then Daisy took a look at the girl. Something changed in Daisy as I felt her soften beside me. This girl could be trusted. Daisy thought so and if Daisy thinks so, I can trust her too.
