Chapter 29

I sniffed and wiped away the tears quickly.  Then I headed towards the first fire that I needed to set.  It took a while to get there, and I could only hope that Katniss was already at the site.  I lit the match and slowly, carefully tossed it into the fire.  I added some sticks and stuff just to make it get more, and then I ran to the next site.

It took a long time to get there, and I knew the Careers should have been at the fire now.  The smoke was really high in the sky now.  I grabbed another match, lit it, and ran.  Then I started to collect things for the last fire.  Before I knew it, the fire was set up.  When I tried to pull out my matches, I realized they were gone.

I had to have left them by the second fire!  When I turned around, however, I found myself face-to-face with Clove.  

I froze.  Clove grinned evilly at me and shouted, "Cato, I-"  She stopped, only because I threw my fist into her mouth.  She bit down and I pulled my hand out of her mouth, trying not to yell out.  I saw Clove pull out some knives.  Once my eyes caught sight of the weapons, I ran.  Suddenly I stumbled on a rock and fell flat on my face.  "No."  I mumbled.
