HEALING HERBS - TURMERIC

The next plant we will be studying today is Turmeric (Curcuma longa). Grown commonly in India, it is the pride of Healers there to have such a useful herb grown and its uses discovered in their country. In fact, Turmeric was used by Herbologists as a part of the oldest recorded use of medicine, dating back to 10 000 years past. Turmeric can grow up to a metre in height, with green leaves, and flowers which can be yellow, orange, or pink, although other variants exist. It is often used in India today during weddings and religious ceremonies of many sorts. Warnings: turmeric should not be given to nursing infants The healing properties of Turmeric: 1. it can be made into a juice, which treats skin conditions such as dragon pox, scabies, rashes and blisters 2. cures many stomach ailments 3. helps with problems in both the pulmonary and gastrointestinal systems 4. treats sprains 5. acts as a pain reliever 6. treats liver problems 7. antibacterial 8. antioxidant 9. anti-inflammatory 10. anti-tumour 11. antiviral 12. Herbologists are currently debating and researching possible anti-fungal properties, it's use with kidney problems, and its effect on bowel diseases
