HEALING HERBS - SAGE
Chapter 61
The first plant we will be covering today is Sage (Salvia). This plant is intimately involved in the healing process, and its name even comes from the Latin verb "salvere" meaning "to save." It grows in sandy soil (or well drained). The pH level of the soil should be between 5.5 and 8.5, though it is fairly adaptable. Sage should be grown in full sunlight. It's flowers can be between blue and purple, with green to grey leaves. Before looking at the list of ways Sage is commonly used in healing, I would like to remind you that Herbologists should be consulted before using medicinal herbs. When taken over a lengthy period of time Sage can induce vomiting, restlessness, tremors, vertigo, and possibly seizures. If you have a predisposition to seizures do not take this. Avoid while pregnant. Healing properties: 1. acts as a ward against minor dark magic and is helpful in antidotes to dark potions 2. eases coughing and sore throats 3. brings down fevers 4. eases heartburn and related conditions 5. helps with digestive tract problems 6. treats circulatory system problems 7. cleans out the liver 8. brings down bruises 9. aids memory 10. regulates hormones, decreases anxiety and depression 11. causes mild drowsiness 12. anti-histamine (helps with allergies) 13. can help with dandruff 14. antiseptic 15. may help with fertility (there is not unanimous agreement by Herbologists) 16. this herb can help with some creature bites 17. in potion form, it can help with skin infections 18. may be put into an essential oil form
