THE 4 SACRED MEDICINES - d.COMMON SAGE : West, Fall, Black
Chapter 57
Also called Garden Sage or Common Sage, this plant has the strongest medicinal power of all the four main medicinal herbs from Aboriginal Herbologist traditions. Most Aboriginal ceremonies utilize this herb. Common Sage relaxes the mind when stress and busyness is wearing a person done. Common Sage may be used in potions for treating respiratory problems such as asthma, and breathing in its fumes (from boiling water) when you have a stuffed nose will clear up the nasal congestion. Consuming potions with sage are often helpful for not only respiratory problems, but also ailments of the mouth, skin, gastrointestinal tract, and stomach. Some Herbologists believe that sage leaves have a similar affect to caffeine and help induce brain activity and increase cognitive performance. This has not been officially confirmed, although people dealing with Alzheimer's disease have been given treatments with Common Sage so possibly new information will come to light soon.
