Moly : Magical Plants in Literature
Chapter 31
Moly is another magical plant portrayed in Homer's Odyssey (this time in book 10, when dealing with a witch named Circe). Moly is a vividly green plant, which blooms white flowers in the late spring and early summer. The roots of the herb are black, and quite strong, making it difficult for muggles to pull the Moly from the ground. Moly is used to ward off the power of magic, and thus is found in several antidote potions. This herb is also useful in countering the effects of delusions, amnesia, and other hallucinatory symptoms. Since this plant has no negative effects on muggles, some wizards are against its inclusion in muggle literature. Better, they think, that muggles remain blissfully ignorant of such details of the wizarding world.
