R. Temple Furniture and Sacred Emblems
Chapter 21
R6 (Variant of R5, “Censer”)
n/a || Bladder
Misinterpreted, not a variant. Miscategorized.
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Symbolically, pigs were seen as the foulest of the foul and generally unclean. This symbol, actually a pig's bladder, was used in curses purported to banish ancient Egyptians to a lower caste were they to pilfer tombs.
Anecdotes/Comments: It is unknown whether or not this actually has any effect, as most societies with avid curse-breaker programs do not have caste systems. Some speculate that if not dissipated, it will cause others to look upon the affected with distaste or to be disbelieved and disliked, but no conclusive proof can be found.
R10 (Combination of R8, T28 and N29, “Flag”, “Butcher’s block”, and “Sandy slope”)
n/a || East, Left
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Indicates the presence of mummies. Additionally, some have claimed to have sighted ancient versions of Inferi, however, this information comes by word of mouth.
R13 (Combination of G5 and R14, Unknown and “Falcon”)
n/a || West, Right
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Directs the spell towards the west portion of the tomb, or a west wing.
Anecdotes/Comments: Useful when trying to figure out safe paths.
R14 (Variation of R13)
n/a || Upwards
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Directs the spell towards the ceiling of the tomb.
Anecdotes/Comments: This was actually a fun one to test when it was used in conjunction with P5. Or, well, it was fun once Archie suggested bringing brooms and earplugs. Before that, we always assumed it did the same thing as R13.
R15 (Spear as standard)
n/a || East, Left
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Directs the spell towards the east portion of the tomb, or an east wing.
Anecdotes/Comments: Useful when trying to figure out safe paths.
R21 (Variant of R20, “Seshat emblem”)
n/a || Seshat
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Is used to represent the goddess Seshat. Can simply be an invocation of the goddess, as this was common for scribes or can be used to lay the foundation for the entire spell, particularly those that are triggered by things touching specific areas (such as Sunlight-Trigger Curses, Shadow-Trigger Curses, Touch-Trigger Curses, Magic-Trigger Curses).
R25 (Variation of R24, “Neith emblem”)
n/a || Arrows
Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Can indicate presence of charmed arrows, on in some cases, large spear-like projectiles or pits containing these. On the other hand, can simply be used as a glyph to strengthen any particularly combatant spells.
