Chapter 10

F4 (Forepart of lion) 3t || Front, Heart Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Actually intended to indicate a sphinx. Thank Merlin we’ve never come across an actual one -- don’t think they could convince one to hang out in a tomb for that long -- but indicates that there is a trap, curse or hidden area that requires solving a riddle. Unfortunately, most of the time the hieroglyphs don’t indicate what riddle, so you have to figure out both the question and the answer. F25 (Leg and hoof of ox) wḥm || Hoof, Repeat Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: When you see this glyph, it usually means you will have to dispel and negate magical effects more than one time as the same curse (or various curses) has been layered repeatedly. F35 (Heart and windpipe) nfr || Good or Beautiful Magical Uses, Meanings, and Pairings: Symbolizes vitality and beauty. Often used in beauty charms. Has been seen on tokens for the deceased to take to the Afterlife including amulets, coins, or inscribed subtly on wide, collar necklaces. Anecdotes/Comments: Likely worn in life, as well. F36 (Lung and windpipe) sm3 || Unite, Lung Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Indicates airborne poison. F52 (Excrement) ḥs || Excrement Magical Uses, Meanings, Pairings: Without lowering the tone, it implies exactly that you might think. Some friends of ours nicknamed it “The Crapping Curse”, but I’m sure there’s a better name out there. Anecdotes/Comments: Often, all you need to do is touch the glyph(s) to activate the spell.
