This device is directly related to the ultimate tensile strength of the wood part of the broom. There is one bending deflection meter that gets the reading of the current maximum bending in the broom. From bludger hits, if the brooms deflection is greater than the calibrated maximum allowable value of deflection then the whistle starts blowing giving warnings of breakage due to excess deformation.
