Encyclopedia of Brooms

By Sayan Sanyal

This book is dedicated to Keith Silvester. It deals with the detailed discussion of Magical Brooms. This book is a mirror of my continuous research work on broom studies. Although many informations are untrackable in the lost pages of old books and manuscripts, this book will try to shed some light of knowledge with the help of my research work. As a matter of fact, further research will add many more chapters I presume. If you are daring and into flying, this is for you. If you are just curious about broom history and current broom ratings and all, these are discussed here too.

Comet Trading Company

Chapter 12
The Comet Trading Company was a broomstick company established in 1929 by Randolph Keitch and Basil Horton, who were both players for the Falmouth Falcons. Its first release was the Comet 140 in the same year, and their patented Horton-Keitch Braking Charm made it less likely for Quidditch players to fly offside or overshoot the goals. The latest Comet released sold more items on its first day than any other broomstick. Comet series brooms featured the Horton-Keitch braking charm, which gave Quidditch players much more control over their movements. Models produced include: Comet 140, Comet 180, Comet 220, Comet 260 and Comet 290. During the 1996 tryouts for the Gryffindor Quidditch team a Comet broom crashed, which resulted the rider throwing a tantrum. A Comet was one of the brooms involved in a 'broom smash' over the River Mersey prior to the last concert date of Celestina Warbeck's Flighty Aphrodite tour. Splinter and Kreek's, presumably a second-hand broom shop (though it's possible they sell new brooms as well) sells secondhand Cleansweep brooms.
