Chapter 6: Seven Planetary Aspects

Chapter 7

The Sun, being the centre of our solar system, gives life to all prospective planets. The Sun is what gives power to our spiritual essence. It is a force that is capable of giving off great energy towards the planets. Some wizards often believe that the sun is what gives us our power.

Notice how the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of this picture.

The inscription says 'INSOLE', which translates to 'in the Sun'. Everything on this planet is engulfed by the energy that is given off from the Sun.

Jupiter and Mercury are the two planets that transform into each other. Mercury represents the intelligence of our human psyche, while Jupiter represents our subconscious and our inner being.

Jupiter is the fierce planet, it is the biggest planet of them all. Jupiter corresponds with the base metal known as tin. The fact that Jupiter transforms into Mercury is an extremely rare thing. It produces a magnificent change in our psyche.

Jupiter has a sickle rune. The symbol for Jupiter shows off the power that the planet has, as well as the magic it inhabits.

Mercury is extremely important to Alchemy - so important, in fact, that alchemists have stated that without Mercury, alchemy would be impossible. It is included in the tria prima. Mercury is the first planet from the Sun, and the energy it emanates give an extreme amount of power to the planet.

Mars is what represents chaos. Mars was the Greek and Roman god for war. Mars transforms into the second planet in our solar system that is closest to the Sun, Venus. Mars is chaotic and uncontrollable. Even with magic, we are unable to produce the amount of magic that is capable of withholding chaos as powerful as Mars gives off.

Venus is the second planet in our solar system that is closest to the Sun. Venus is the planet that has the characteristic of love. In Ancient Rome and Greece, a goddess had control of love. In Roman culture, they called her Venus. In Greek culture, they called her Aphrodite. Love is a characteristic vastly different from chaos; however, both are impossible to understand in terms of magic.

Saturn is the old planet. Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. It acts as the staple in our solar system that keeps all of the planets in line. Saturn was the god of sowing or seeding. He is equated with the Greek titan Cronus. Cronus was exiled by his son Zeus. Saturn has rings that are extremely powerful. You can see Saturn with the naked eye, however, Muggles tend to use a 10-inch telescope to view Saturn.

The Moon is a celestial body that is known for its youth and beauty. The fact that Saturn transforms into the Moon is astounding. The Moon rejuvenates the life on our planet. It gives the ocean its tides. In Transfiguration, the Moon is vitally important for maximizing a proper transformation.

If you look at the picture, you can see a wizard harnessing the power of the Sun and the Moon.
