Philip Black was born to Helena Joanne Black, an eccentric witch living in London, and one of her many husbands, whose identity is currently unknown. The only known fact is that both his parents were pure-blooded wizards.

It's unknown what happened to his father; Some wizards swear that he suffered the same fate as her previous spouses, dying in mysterious ways after having arguments with her. One could say that Helena had a terrible tendency to marry violent men, and an even worse tendency to be equally violent. Yet others say this is just due to bad luck, and that Black's father is still living a happy, albeit discreet, life along with his family.

Helena Black worked in her own little restaurant, where she took pride in her cooking despite being bashed by anyone outside of her family ("The worst pies in London", said the Daily Prophet before the critic disappeared). She occasionally operates the restaurant once in a while, but her current occupation is unknown.

Her nephew, born a Squib, horrified her to her core. Fortunately for her, her son turned out to be inherently magical. Not much is known about her personal life, although Philip considers her a great person and a role model despite her eccentric behaviour.

Philip himself is a relatively introverted boy. A first-year at Hogwarts, at 11 years old he has already shown remarkable interest in Potions, and often relishes in studying alone instead of making friends with his fellow Housemates. His mother was extremely supportive of her son's sorting, considering Slytherin to be one of the best houses in Hogwarts.

He is still small for his age, a trait exaggerated by his tendency to try and make himself smaller in order to become less visible. Long, oily dark hair and black eyes that constantly widen out when he becomes nervous, Philip is not considered handsome by wizarding standards. Not that he cares; At this age, he still trusts that girls are "icky". One could argue that his mother's questionable cooking is the reason for why the boy is so painfully thin. Helena's overprotectiveness of her son has definetly contributed to this introverted and untrusting personality.

His only major feat in Hogwarts so far has been the fact that he applied, and ended up in, Slytherin's Quidditch Team as a Chaser under the mentorship of his cousin Valkyrie. Later on, he was transferred to a Seeker position. Slytherin stood triumphantly in the first season's 3rd place. Not the best rank, but certainly a step up for his confidence.
