Madrone Ashton

Student

Hi! I'm a new Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can, especially Charms, DADA and Study of Ancient Runes.

Backstory

I am a new Ravenclaw student here at Hogwarts. The Hat sorted me in my house - not because I wanted to be the best - but because I love reading and learning and trying new things. Thinking outside the box you know?
It didn't take too long to make a decision, but the Hat did say that I could be pretty good in Griffindor, I'm the kind of person that's not afraid to speak my mind.
I am a muggleborn and proud of it. Both worlds are equally amazing to me - I mean Magic. That's all I have to say. But just because Muggles don't have magic doesn't mean that they are inherently dumb! Muggles invented so many things to compensate for a lack of magic, like iPhones and computers, cars, planes, jeans and T-shirts (which are way more efficient than robes to me) and most subjects at a magical school have equivalents in the Muggle world. The whole "Magic is Might" thing is completely stupid! Just because a lion doesn't have thumbs doesn't make it any less incredible than humans!
*calms down* Sorry, I have opinions on this matter as you can probably tell. But let's move on shall we?
My family is totally cool with magic. We believed in it way before my Hogwarts letter. Cause I mean, how else do you explain all those unexplainable things in life without magic? My younger siblings are holding out on the hope that they get a letter one day too!
Some Pureblood bigots sometimes like to try and put me down because of my lineage, I usually just smile at them as if they're small children that don't yet know anything of consequence.
As for pets. Toads? Definitely not. I don't like toads and I feel similarly with rats. Dogs? Well, I had a bad run-in with a big dog when I was a kid - I didn't get hurt or anything, but I'm not too comfortable with dogs now so they're out. Cats? I've always thought cats are very independent, which is good, so I guess that they might be an option I'll consider. Owls? They're pretty useful, carrying mail and intelligent to boot, but I am a Muggle, and I have Muggle friends and family so it'll be kinda hard to uphold the Statute of Secrecy and what-not with an owl.
Overall though, if I got any pet it would be a good idea to get one self-sufficient cause I don't really know how to care for animals at all. Also, I'd probably keep thinking, what if it doesn't like me but it can't leave because I'm its owner? What if it was procured illegally or the pet store was mean and by buying it I'm funding a bad organisation? I'm probably overthinking it, sorry.
Moving on.
I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can, but especially Charms, D.A.D.A. and Study of Ancient Runes once I am old enough.
I am a firm believer in the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" so I'll withhold prior opinions on the classes, though I don't expect to do the greatest in Herbology as I've never really done well with growing plants, and Muggle Studies if taught biasedly, is, in my (very vehement, as you have seen above) opinion, discrimination.
I'm a really fast reader and I can memorise spoken words well, but my mind likes jumping from one idea to another - which usually leads to me getting terribly off track.
I think the most fascinating part of Magic is that most wizards think there are rules involved and that it can be labelled. Magic is everything and everywhere. If you can imagine it, magic can do it. After I graduate, I think I would want to experiment with magical theory and create new spells and uses for it.
If I ever came across a benevolent genie that won't twist my words, I would ask for peace in the world. I would like to settle down somewhere with no more secrets or hiding and just live happily.
