Katherine Walker

Backstory

Born to wizarding naturalist Peter Walker and historian Susan Hill, Katherine Walker grew up in the wizarding world from birth. Her parents were originally from Norwich and London, respectively, and met during their years at Hogwarts. After matriculating, Peter served a brief stint in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures for the Ministry of Magic while Susan studied Muggle economic history at the London School of Economics. After getting married some years later, Peter realized that his life in London was not the hands-on magizoology experience that he hoped it would be, and Susan decided to begin her dissertation. The couple moved to the smalltown of Whitstable, Kent. There, Peter could specialize in the magical properties of oysters, and Susan could study the economic history of small-scale British fisheries, traveling back to London when necessary. By the time the two decided to start a family in their mid-30s, they had completely settled in Whitstable so that both of them could continue field research in their respective disciplines.

Growing up in the mostly non-magical town of Whitstable meant that Katherine and her older sister Olivia were just as comfortable in the Muggle world as in the magical one. Their acquaintances, neighbors, and closest friends were often Muggles, and as their mother began to lean into Muggle history more and more, they got their fair share of non-magical education. But her ties to the magical world also remained. Peter and Susan made sure to take the girls to London annually to visit family and explore Diagon Alley. Formally, Katherine's first introduction to magic was attending Charms School along with her Muggle grade school classes, though she absorbed many second-hand Hogwarts lessons relayed by Olivia over holiday breaks. When it was Katherine's turn to receive her Hogwarts letter, she was overjoyed that she would be able to experience the world that she only got to see once a year.

Peter attended Hogwarts as a Gryffindor, and Susan did so as a Ravenclaw. Therefore, it was no surprise that Olivia, who took after her dad, ended up in the former while Katherine, who took after her mother, ended up in the latter. As a gift from her great grandmother in Trinidad, she has a small Spectacled Owl named Carolyn. Katherine is most excited to participate in chamber music groups and study Charms and History of Magic.
