Backstory

Hello! My name is Amelia Rae Starling. I’m currently a first-year at Hogwarts. My parents and older brother are muggles. I’ve always believed that magic existed, so you can imagine my excitement when I received my letter. My parents, however, aren’t exactly a fan of the unordinary. They were even less happy at the thought of me having to fly to the other side of the world, so it was pretty tense when they dropped me off at the airport. My brother and I have always been close though, and he was really excited for me to go. It’s hard to spend so much time away from him when we’ve been practically inseparable our whole lives. Everything is so cool at Hogwarts and I still can’t believe that I’m a witch. I wasn’t surprised when I was sorted into Hufflepuff. I believe that kindness is extremely important, and I’m hoping that being a witch will increase my ability to help those in need. Before I got my letter I spent lots of my time baking for family and friends, hoping to later turn it into a career. I’ve heard that there’s a sweet-shop called Honeydukes in Hogsmeade, and I think that would be a great place to continue a baking path while still being immersed in the magical world. My muggle-born status has had a big influence on my experience at Hogwarts even though I haven’t been here for long. While I’ve met so many nice and accepting people so far, I’ve also had some not-so-nice run-ins with some students that think coming from a family of muggles makes me less of a person. Although there are some people in the world that are truly despicable and not worthy of respect, many are brought up in toxic environments. It’s no excuse to treat someone badly, but it explains their actions better. I try to be kind to everyone, even those who don’t seem deserving, as those are the people who often need it most. I can’t wait to meet all kinds of new friends, and see what the magical world has to offer!
