Backstory

When I first received my letter I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was stunning! I’m a half-blood, I had never shown signs of being a witch so I just assumed I wasn’t, so as you can probably assume, it was quite a surprise to see that I was a witch. Our family loves tradition so my mother was ecstatic to take me to Diagon Alley the same way her mother took her. She grabbed the floo powder off the shelf and tossed it into the fireplace. Then we were off! I remember seeing so many students that day I was nervous there wasn’t going to be anything left for us, but I was clearly mistaken. This is the Wizard’s world for heaven’s sake! She bought me the latest broom, the Lightning 5000, and we filled my cauldron with books galore! Then was the exciting part, picking out my wand. The wand dealer gave me 5 wands to choose from, however none of them chose me. I was placing the last wand back in the box when something hit me in the back of the head! I turned around, angry at whoever threw it, but to my surprise, a wand box drifted back a couple inches, as though it were cowering. I opened the box and took out the wand inside. Something surged through me, it felt like the wand had bonded with me. My mother beamed and pulled me into a strangle-hug before we purchased the wand. I thought we were done shopping after that since I had everything I needed for school, but my mother pulled me into a small pet shop. I had always wanted an owl but we never got the chance to buy one, now didn’t look like a chance either. There were frogs and rats, krumpies and cats, but there wasn’t an owl in sight. I was about to pick up a baby krumpie when my mother asked the seller if he had any owls left. The man replied he had one, but it was a runt and didn’t like anyone. I walked over to where he pointed at it and the owl hooted at me, angrily as it dropped something from it’s mouth. I picked up a small twig and placed it in the owl’s beak. It hooted it’s thanks and nuzzled up against my finger. “I’ll take it,” I said to the man. The man looked at me strangely but gave me some necessities as I brought the owl to the front counter. As we walked out of the store my mom asked what I was going to name it. “Twig,” I replied. “After she dropped her twig and I earned her trust by giving it back.” “How do you know it’s a girl?” My mother asked. “I just have a feeling,” I smiled, scratching Twig’s head. A few weeks later I was off on the train to Hogwarts, and well here I am!
