Backstory
Aurora (Lola) Reagan McGinty was born in 1993 in a quaint town on the southern coast of Ireland. Her mother Maeve was a muggleborn witch and her father Patrick a muggle that grew up across the street. He was the first person to know of her mother's magic and they married shortly after she returned home in 1990 for good from her private boarding school in Scotland. They decided against living in Wizarding London or another nearby magical community for their peaceful muggle town to begin a family and start a restaurant.Their business flourished over the years but as rumors of another war returning to the Wizarding World, they made the decision to take their toddler and move to America and begin anew. Starting another restaurant with classic Irish dishes, seasoned with Maeve Mac's special ingredients, served with Patrick's infectious grin and lovable charm, and every customer was greeted by a little redheaded girl with a slight speech impediment welcoming them into "Lola Mac's".
Even with the war over and their hometown safe to return to, the McGinty family decided to remain in the United States and to continue building their life there. It only took a few years before Aurora's parents realized that she took after her mother's side when every morning they entered her room the walls were a different color. Or her rubber ducks would turn into seashells and starfish during bath time. On that fateful October morning of Aurora's 11th birthday, there were two wizarding school letters to respond to. The American school Ilvermorny and her mother's alma mater Hogwarts.
Aurora spent months arguing back and forth with her parents wanting so badly to go where her mother had attended. But they both felt more comfortable if she stayed closer to home, where they didn't have an ocean separating them in case signs of war started showing again. It took months of begging and promises that she would transfer and come home if need be but they finally agreed. The next day she stood inside of Ollivander's Wand Emporium and clung to her cheeky 13" dogwood wand with its phoenix feather core and beamed up at her parents.
Her train ride to school was very much filled with the same enthusiasm and wonder as the other first years. Her boat ride across the Black Lake was spent peering over the edge looking for the sea creatures her mother had told her about her whole life. And the walk up to the Sorting Hat gave her just as much anxiety as she had expected. The hat was only on her head for a few moments before the hat recognized her passion and iron grit that she possessed and sent her on her way to begin her education under the bright banners of maroon and gold.
