Nia Blackstern

Backstory

Nia was born in a small village in the south of England, with a population of no more than three hundred. Her father, Charlie, was a muggle fisherman, and her mother, Lyria, a muggleborn witch cast out by her parents for having magic, or as they put it, “having the Devil’s touch”. Charlie and Lyria fell in love young, and Lyria was only seventeen when she fell pregnant with Nia.

By the time Nia turned five, it was clear that her accidental magic was far more volatile than it should have been. She didn’t use it often, but when she did it was intense and out-of-control, often resulting in destruction. When she was three, she accidentally blew up her father’s fishing boat. At four years old, she burned her house down. A few months later, she killed an elderly couple when they nearly ran her over. Charlie and Lyria became desperate, and hired a private tutor to help Nia control her magic.

When Nia was six, a pack of werewolves came to her village and wreaked havoc, killing or turning almost the entire village. They killed Charlie and Lyria in front of Nia, before turning her. They had come because Lyria had slain one of their own in self defense years ago.

The werewolves kidnapped Nia, brainwashing her into thinking they were her true family. She travelled around Britain with them, and they never attempted to control their wolf forms; if they happened to slaughter a few innocents, that was just the way of the food chain.

Nia never went to Hogwarts, and as such she never learned to control her magic or obtained a wand. Most of the werewolves in her pack had been muggles, and none of the few wizards had a wand. Her magical outbursts grew less frequent, yet more dangerous; the only time she never performed magic was when she was in her wolf form.

During the second war, Nia and her pack were secluded in the Scottish Highlands, learning more about their wolf forms from an ancient warlock. Through months of research and experimentation, the warlock and the werewolves managed to create a spell that adapted their curse. Much like animagi, the werewolves could now turn at will; however, they were still unable to resist turning at the full moon, and their bite would still turn humans into regular werewolves.

After each member of the pack underwent the spell, they emerged from the secluded highlands to find a war had been fought and won in their absence.
