Backstory
Honestly, waiting for my letter was one of the most nerve-wracking things I've ever experienced. My dad - Oscar - he's an auror but my mum, Eleanor, she's a muggle. I remember overhearing so many conversations before my birthday - would I even be a witch? A squib, maybe? I guess I hadn't really shown any sign of having magic before my birthday. Mum used to swear that when I was 5 I had saved a glass from shattering by making it float after knocking it off the kitchen bench. But I can't remember it and Dad didn't see it, so after a while even mum doubted it. I grew up in Australia so the accent is real - Mum is an Aussie. We moved to London just before my birthday because Dad refused to send me anywhere but Hogwarts - it's the best y'know.The Hat put me in Hufflepuff nearly straight away and I love it - the whole house is like a family away from home. I know that sometimes people look down on us - we're not "brave", or "ambitious" or "smart" - but I promise you'll find some of the loveliest people you could ever meet in Hufflepuff. My favourite class here at Hogwarts is either Transfiguration, Charms or History of Magic. A lot of people find History of Magic boring, but I love it - I think learning about the past is the only way to ensure it doesn't happen again.
I'm a half-blood, but that hasn't effected me here - it's not like that anymore. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was defeated two years before I was born, but even growing up in Australia the wizarding community always told stories about the times. Dad was in the UK during his rise to power and he was working as an Auror there when he met my Mum. I've heard a lot about those times from them, but I don't think I could imagine our world ever returning to the way it was.
I don't know what I want to do when I finally leave Hogwarts. But I do know that I want to use my magic to help people - maybe not even just helping other wizards, but muggles too. I guess that's why I'm in Hufflepuff - I want to help people, and I'd like to think of myself as being pretty kind.
