Backstory

Whoa. First year. At Hogwarts. Sometimes I can't believe it - I mean, just a few years ago I was running down the streets of Bangladesh, now I'm. Here. I guess. Mom married some American businesswoman who swept her off her feet (who knows how - she's not exactly the "romantic" type) and then we moved all the way out here. For business. I guess. Oh yeah, turns out Mom's a wizard - witch - whichever - does it even matter - which is pretty cool. Really. I would be more excited if I weren't still really bitter about Mom making me leave home.
Okay, maybe I'm lying a little, of course I'm excited, it's freaking MAGIC! My stepsister's super jealous but won't say it (trust me I can tell) and she's so MEAN. I'm actually glad I won't be home for the entire school year - I can't stand Lindy going all "oh no you can't do that that's against the rules you have to listen to me im the oldest" and Mom breathing down my neck and whatever. At least my stepmom's not as annoying. She smiles a lot, even when she's mad. It's creepy.
Oh yeah, I don't like my real name, so call me Ari. (According to my stepmom it's Hebrew for "lion," which is pretty awesome.)
