Backstory

It was a dark rainy afternoon when much to my surprise I saw a white owl with blueish brown spots flying toward the open window of my family's living room. I had never seen such a miraculous bird, it's grace in movement, it's beauty, and it help something in it's clutches seeming trying to shield it's treasure from the rain outside. I couldn't see what it was but it was clear that it was of great importance to the owl. As the owl lowered its self almost seeming to be looking at me. I had lost my breath, could it be, but no how could it? Could this be my letter to Hogwarts. My parents were both from magic born families, my father having elf blood, and my mother fay, was how I had accounted for my, well lack of height. But, could it be that the small odd things that had been happening the past few weeks, and the looks my parents and brother had been giving each other when they did was really me just finally showing something I didn't know I had. We had known the my brother, who was three years my senior, was magical. By the time his letter from Hogwarts came he had already been turning sugar cubes into spiders and making the remote float over to him when he didn't want to get up to get it. I loved my brother but I did have to admit that I was always a bit envious that he was magical and I was seemingly not. The owl landed softly on the back of the armchair that I was reading in, breaking me from my thoughts. It dropped a cream letter into my lap with the red wax seal and I know, I know in a second, what it was. I sat there breathless staring at the letter.
"I know you would get one" my brother's low wispier in my ear seemed to be miles away
"What....Oh I didn't.....wait how did you know?" I said finding my voice again
"I could see it. All the things happening this year it wasn't me doing it." he said with a laugh "well are you going to open it or not?"
"Don't you think I should wait for Dad to get home?" I said not really wanting to wait
"Well you won't have to wait long he just got home" he said pointing at the door.
There was my father walking up the stairs to the front door, he worked in the muggle world so he takes his muggle car to work daily. My mom came in and took his lunch bag and smiled, gave him a kiss on the cheek, and ask how his day was.
"Not bad, Mr. Personality was his normal charming self. how...." he paused and looked at me then back at my mom "how is the birthday girl's day going"
"GREAT!" I jumped up almost feeling as if I was watching myself not know what I was doing. I then had the feeling that the rest of me had just caught up to my body. "Look what just came by owl! I haven't even opened it...but...but it looks just like the one that came for Danial when......" I had to skid to a stop so I wouldn't crash into my parents. "you know Malinda just got her's too it means we will still be together, even if we aren't in the same house" At this my brother's ears turned pink with blush. He had,had a crush on my best friend for as long as I could remember, and she was always fond of him as well
"And Andy" he was giving me that smile he always did when he brought up his best friend's name and it was my turn to have my ears go pink and warm. "Oh will you open it already!" Danial was walking over and laughing at me trying to hide himself blushing
"Oh right...." with that I broke the seal and read the letter out loud. It was real, it was finally real, in just over 3 months, just after the summer I was going too, I was going to Hogwarts.
