Backstory

Atara was slightly deranged from the start - the voices in her head, the taste for the flesh of other humans. At sixteen, after a diagnosis and the mysterious deaths of four therapists, St. Mungo's locked her up in their psych ward. At seventeen, after torturing and murdering three healers, she was sent to Azkaban. However, as a side affect of her condition, the dementors don't affect her; some would argue they drove her even more insane, but that's debatable.

Atara managed to escape Azkaban, and went on the run at a mere eighteen years of age. She s criminally and medically insane. She finds pleasure in torturing others, hearing their screams, and ending their lives. Atara feels pain just as other humans do, but she can compartmentalize the pain away in her mind, so that she never has to deal with it; it creates a new voice, and drives her slightly more insane each time she does it, so if it's just a scratch or a single punch she never bothers. However, once she was captured by the Avada Ked Mafia, and tortured within an inch of her life - that was one of the first times she'd ever used her ability.

Atara is not always one level of mad. Sometimes she seems completely sane, and is close too it; other times she is feral as a wolf, when the voices in her head take over and do not merely whisper, but scream. She usually manages to hold a general balance of psychotic but vaguely human, but sometimes she loses her grip.
