Backstory

It's my first day at Hogwarts. I nervously walk the halls, wondering if any of the other curious, wide-eyed students come from a similar background. An American expat whose family moved to London for work, I was the last person to expect an owl carrying my acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I believed wholly it must be a prank, but sure enough, using the floo powder and small pouch of Galleons provided by the school for my exceptional circumstances, I was transported at once to Diagon alley to buy my required utensils for Year One. My parents are both non magic (Muggles, I believe they are called here), and to their knowledge there are no magical family members in our family line. I hear that's not entirely well looked upon in some parts of the magical community. But, nonetheless, I was excited to begin this new chapter and my parents sent me off with teary eyes, and a promise for an owl every week with updates. A cauldron, wand (what an odd adventure that was, but suffice it to say it took a good long while before a 13", Cedarwood wand with a phoenix feather core chose me), a large assortment of books and various potions ingredients later, and I was nearly all set. I was awfully nervous walking into the shop where I bought my robes, unsure of who to speak to or if she would even know what I was talking about, but a wiry haired witch was happy to assist me and I was school-ready in no time. The boat ride to the castle was exceptional. I had read ahead as much as I could in my tattered, second hand copy of "Hogwarts, a History" to get a step ahead on what to expect, and knew to expect the boat ride, but no printed words could have prepared me for the majestic view of the castle as we passed the calm waters of the great lake. The sorting hat was as nerve wracking as I'd expected, and I knew it took a students choice in house into consideration, but it decided that Ravenclaw was a better fit for me than Gryffindor, my initial first choice. In just a few days here, I know it was the right choice for me. I'm worried about fitting in with my obvious American accent and non magic descent. Will I be accepted? Was it all a mistake? I await constantly a summons to the headmasters office to let me know in fact it was, and I am to be at once shipped back to my dull, previous life. However, if my readings on Hogwarts hold true, the very fact that I am here and can see the full Majesty of the castle is proof enough of the magic coursing through my veins, so there is some solace in that. And on that note, Im late to my first class! a great first impression.
