Backstory

My name is Katerina Black — though few know the truth behind that name. Fewer still know I’m the daughter of Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange. My mother saw serving the Dark Lord as an honor. My father saw it as a prison. To keep me from that fate, he made a deal: I’d attend one Death Eater meeting a month starting in fourth year, but I’d live under the protection of Sirius Black — my uncle.

But Sirius was in Azkaban. So I was raised by Remus Lupin instead. He protected me, guided me — until he vanished after his secret was revealed. I’d always known he was a werewolf. I just didn’t expect him to leave when I needed him most.

By third year, my world began to unravel. I learned Sirius was innocent. And while my Slytherin circle and Harry’s friends were supposed to be enemies, we found ourselves piecing together the same painful legacy.

Most people at Hogwarts only knew me as a quiet Slytherin. Only Pansy, Blaise, and Matheo Riddle knew who I really was — and why I attended those dark meetings. Matheo had known even more: that I was promised to him. An arranged marriage, decided long before we understood what love was.

But feelings had already taken root between us. Matheo, cold and unreadable to everyone else, had been quietly watching me since third year. In fifth, that quiet turned possessive — protective. He fought anyone who came near me, always a step behind, always watching.

He has his father's gift of Legilimency — able to read minds, yes, but also to enter them. When your guard is down, he can slip into your thoughts like a dream. And sometimes, I let him in.

I feared becoming my mother. I feared the blood in my veins. But him?
