Backstory

  • Name: Lyric Featherfall

  • Date of Birth: February 10th, 2011

  • Appearance: Petite build, with long, tangled dirty blond hair often pulled back in a messy bun. Large, observant blue grey eyes that seem to hold more wisdom than her age suggests. Clothes are often hand-me-downs and slightly ill-fitting.

  • Personality: Lyric is outwardly quiet and observant, a survival tactic developed from years of navigating a cold home environment. She's fiercely independent and responsible, having essentially raised herself. Beneath the surface, however, lies a deep well of creativity, a longing for acceptance and connection, and an unyielding spirit. She's also incredibly loyal to those who earn her trust. Her sense of humour is dry and sarcastic, often used as a defense mechanism. She is very intelligent and quick to learn.

Motivation and Goals:

  • Core Motivation: To find a place where she belongs and is valued for who she is, not for what she can do. To build a family of her own, whether through blood or through bond.

  • Short-Term Goals: To excel at Hogwarts and prove to herself (and perhaps to her parents, though she'd never admit it) that she's capable of great things. To master her magical abilities and find a niche where she can truly shine.

  • Long-Term Goals: To find a profession that allows her to use her creativity and help others. To create a warm and loving home for herself and potentially for others in the future.

Significant Events:

  • Early Childhood: Neglect and Responsibility: From a young age, Lyric was largely ignored by her parents, who were consumed by their own problems and careers. She learned to cook, clean, and care for herself, effectively becoming the adult in the household. This fostered a sense of self-reliance but also a deep-seated insecurity about her worth.

  • Age 9: Discovery of Magic: One day, while trying to fix a broken vase her parents would surely be angry about, she unconsciously used magic to mend it. This sparked a mix of fear and excitement within her, a realization that she was different. She kept it a secret, practicing small spells in secret and reading about magic at the library.

  • Age 11: The Hogwarts Letter: Receiving her acceptance letter to Hogwarts was both a dream come true and a source of anxiety. Her parents barely reacted, seeing it as an inconvenience. The experience of being thrust into a world of magic, away from her emotionally neglectful parents, was both liberating and overwhelming. She arrived at Hogwarts feeling woefully unprepared and intimidated, both magically and socially.

  • First Year at Hogwarts: Finding Friendship: Initially, Lyric struggled to fit in, feeling like an outsider due to her Muggle upbringing and lack of social skills. However, she eventually formed a close bond with a few other students who saw beyond her quiet exterior. These friendships became her lifeline, providing her with the support and acceptance she craved.

  • Third Year at Hogwarts: The Patronus Charm During a particularly difficult time struggling to keep up with her studies, her Defence Against the Dark Arts professor helped the class learn the Patronus charm. Lyric struggled to create a Patronus, because she realised how little true happiness she felt in her life. She felt disconnected for her parents, and longed to feel love and belonging.

Relationships:

  • Parents (Mr. and Mrs. Featherfall): An emotionally distant and neglectful relationship. They view Lyric as an inconvenience and rarely show her affection or support. There is no trust or warmth between them.

  • Close Friends: Lyric is slow to trust, but fiercely loyal to those who earn her friendship. These friends become her surrogate family, providing her with the love and support she never received at home. They see her intelligence, creativity, and hidden depths.

  • Professors: While initially intimidated by her professors, Lyric gradually forms respectful relationships with a few who recognize her potential and offer her guidance. She's drawn to those who are kind and understanding, offering her the encouragement she lacks at home.

  • Potential Romantic Interest: (This can be developed further depending on the direction of the story) Lyric may struggle with romantic relationships due to her insecurities and fear of vulnerability. It would take a patient and understanding person to break through her walls and earn her trust.

Growth and Change:

  • Initial State: Insecure, independent, observant, and emotionally guarded. She lacks confidence in her own abilities and struggles to connect with others.

  • Transformation: Through her experiences at Hogwarts, Lyric gradually learns to trust others, embrace her magical abilities, and value herself. She develops confidence in her intelligence and creativity, and discovers her own inner strength. Her friendships help her heal from her past and build a more positive outlook on the future.

  • Evolving Perspective: Over time, Lyric comes to realize that family isn't just about blood, but about the bonds you create. She starts to see the potential for happiness and belonging in the world, and actively works to create that for herself and others. She learns to forgive her parents without necessarily condoning their behavior, and focuses on building a brighter future.
