Backstory

EARLY LIFE OF M. W. FAIRFAX

Martin Windsor Fairfax, born in the Year of the Horse, in the morning hours, at the very moment the moon shook sun's hand and took her place. Martin's parents were both Muggles, his mother was a factory worker, and his father was a retired soldier. From a very early age, Martin stood out. He was a bit odd, imaginative, ambitious, stubborn, fiery, flamboyant and sometimes not the easiest person to be around. He had a certain fire, which was quite misunderstood by his family and not received very well, which at one point led to rage and thoughtlessness.

When he was five years old, he got frustrated because his eldest sister was making fun of him.  He just stood there, wanting to cry, but was too angry to as his sister was making fun of him. And then it happened. Just as mentioned: fire. He didn't do anything, wasn't even near the table. His look was pointed towards it and it just set ablaze. It was hot and in a beautiful shade of orange. The family was petrified, and for a brief moment, for the first time ever, only at five years old, Martin felt what power and control felt like. As his father tried to extinguish the fire, Martin just wouldn't stop glaring at it, and in the end, he somehow changed the color of the fire from orange to light blue. His mother shook his shoulders and told him to stop, and so he did. The fire stopped as soon as he broke eye contact with it. There were no reasonable explanations behind it. The family was in shock, terrified, and clueless about Martin's magical ability. They shook it off, tried to ignore it, but made sure that they never upset him again.

He preferred playing inside the house with his toys, trading cards, and his video games He found joy in his own company and his rules of playing. One time, while playing with his tiny toy monsters, he decided to recreate an epic battle between his Sea Monster and Lava Monster figurines. He sat back a bit further, put his mind to it, and the figurines started moving by themselves. The Lava Monster was set on fire, just as that living room table and it defeated the Sea Monster by burning it to the ground.

There were other instances of his magical abilities developing as well; he was making things levitate, switching TV channels without the remote controller, seeing himself asleep at night, and floating above his sleeping body.

When he was 6, he got in a fight with his sister over some rather unimportant and forgettable thing. He was aggravated and he focused really really hard on her mind; he ordered her,  without saying a word to her, to punch herself in the nose. Luckily the punch was weak, otherwise, it would be hard to explain to the doctors why she punched herself.

Family at some point became aware that Martin was different; he did unexplainable, mystical things. His father suppressed it, and his sisters were afraid, but his mother, not knowing exactly what Martin really was, tried her best to make him feel like a normal and loved child. But she was scared too. Greatly.

At 7 years old, Martin attended Muggle school. Before he started, his mother told him not to do what he usually does; set things on fire, make things levitate, etc. He promised not to do any of it. He understood his mother, as if he took a peek into her mind, saw and felt how scared she was for him, and of him. He did surprisingly well at school; he liked to read, he excelled in English, and he even made some friends along the way. Because he was flamboyant, sensitive and because he mostly hung out with the girls, the kids, especially the boys made fun of him every day. All he could think about was making them pay. Even though he enjoyed the power and control he had, he never wanted to be feared. Therefore he never reacted to their insults.

Two years have passed and Martin turned 9. He did well in school, although math wasn't his strong suit. As for his abilities, he hasn't done a single thing in those two years, willingly at least. He could still sometimes see himself asleep during the night and he would sometimes feel what other people felt, but it was rare. He didn't set anything on fire, or make a student fly, neither did he control their minds and make them hurt themselves. He did have a reason though. The kids were cruel, and his teacher wasn't the most supportive. Martin was thin, skinny, and was quite picky about his food. Of course, everybody had something to say about it, even the teacher, and they made him feel bad about himself. All of them, even his friends sometimes made him feel unworthy and less. Regarding his family, his mother was still somewhat supportive of him, still trying her best, his father was there for the most part but wasn't really involved in his life, and his sisters got a little older and started ditching him.

He had so many people around him, but not even one person wholeheartedly loved him nor accepted him for who he truly was. He was sensitive, temperamental, and sometimes loud. He had the body he had, he liked the company of girls because he felt more connected to them, and he liked his imagination and ideas. He also loved his power, although he didn't use it. He was a lot of things really, a perfect little misfit.

Year of the Dragon; Summer, days before his 10th birthday, Martin, while playing outside came across a hurt bird, a common chaffinch to be exact. It was unknown how but the little bird had a broken left wing. He picked it up gently, trying not to hurt it even more, but he had no idea what to do. However, for a brief moment, he felt pain and hurt. His mind was set on making it go away. He succeded. The feeling was gone from his body, and the bird flew away as if nothing had happened. He watched her fly away and saw her left-wing work perfectly. He promised not to do what he usually does, or what he usually did before his mother made him promise not to do it, so Martin didn't tell a soul about that pretty little bird that got her wing back.

On the day of his 10th birthday, after the cake his mother made him and a couple of photos that followed, the doorbell rang. His mother opened the door and what followed changed Martin's life forever.
